Faster Pussycat Spotlight - Amazombie

You don't want to be in the way when Amazombie is coming through the pack – she might just eat your brain! Not only is she agile on skates but she has a hit that is a force to be reckoned with. Watch out for her this season with the FPC and the TCRG's All-Star team.

Skater name: Amazombie
Skater number: 00
Birthday: Sept 17
Position: Jammer & Blocker.
How did you come up with your name: I am tall like an Amazon and I like dead things ;)
Why you joined derby: I played football in high school and I missed hitting people.
How long have you been playing derby: This will be my second season.
What is your favourite thing about derby: All the people involved are so diverse, it is a great group of people to interact with.
Any advice for new derby players: When you get on the track don't hesitate, just do it.
Favourite derby moment: When my team yells "Eat her brains" to me – it makes me laugh and gives me a boost to keep going.
Which derby player do you look up to: L.A. Gunns is an all-round wicked player. She is an agile jammer, a hard hitting blocker and a very effective communicator. When she is on the track, you know it.
Tell us something about you that derby folk wouldn't know: Most people don't know that I am an Australian citizen and I know sign language (my parents are deaf).

Faster Pussycat Spotlight - XanaDoozie

XanaDoozie (or, as we all call her "Doozie" or "la dooze" or any ending in "zie") is a nimble player who dances through the pack throwing hits sharp as knives. (XanaDoozie is shown here on the right side of the photo below with her teammate Miss Shell Shockk on the left)

Skater name: XanaDoozie

Skater number:
61

Birthday:
December 7

Position:
Part time Jammer & Part time Blocker

How did you get your name: Originally from the poem Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor Coleridge "In Xanadu did Kublai Khan / A stately Pleasure-Dome decree" because, you know, I'm a Pleasure-Dome.

Reason for skater number: 61 is my husband's hockey number and he picked it because of Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

You joined derby because: A friend of mine was trying out and I tagged along.

How long have you been playing derby: This is my second season.

What is your favourite thing about derby: When the team works as a unit; it's amazing.

Any advice for new derby players: If you get hit down, get up. If you fall down, get up. If you get sandwiched by two huge girls and you're laying on the ground and they are waiting to take you down again, get up.

Favourite derby moment: Winning against Atomic City was pretty neat.

Which derby player(s) do you look up to: Our whole league is full of amazing skaters. I am so honored to be a part of the FPC and each girl on our team has helped me out in some way and so they are all my favourites.

Something interesting about yourself not related to derby: I draw pictures for a living.

Faster Pussycat Spotlight - Mary Queen of Shotz

Mary Queen of Shotz (more affectionately known as "Shotz") is a hard-hitting, skater-levelling, I-thought-was-skating-but-now-I'm-on-the-floor-thanks-to-Shotz kind of player. She is a calm player but watch out because the calm always precedes the storm.

Skater name: Mary Queen of Shotz

Skater number: 1587

Birthday: July 13th.

Position: Occasional Jammer & Mostly Blocker.

How did you get that name: After Mary Queen of Scots, hitting and also being a nurse.

Reason for skater number: 1587 was the year Mary Queen of Scots was beheaded.

You joined derby because: I saw a bout and thought I have to do this.

How long have you been playing derby: This will be coming into my second season.

What is your favourite thing about derby: The terrific community of derby and the accepting environment to be who you want to be.

Favourite derby moment: Winning last season against the eves with FPC!!

Which derby player(s) do you look up to: Many of the veterans who have helped me to become a better player. I especially look up to Player 1 and 8-Mean Wheeler.

Something interesting about yourself not related to derby: I wake people up from surgery.

Faster Pussycat Spotlight - Tiki TimeBomb

Tiki TimeBomb needs no introduction as any skater who has played against her knows what hard hits and determination are. So without further ado...

Skater name: Tiki TimeBomb

Skater number: 3.2.1

Birthday: November 9

Position: Pivot & jammer

How did you get your name: Tikis are often now depicted as fierce little figures hopping madly about with their mouths wide open and flames sprouting from their heads or somewhere nearby. This usually describes me as well. The fact that I've collected tiki art for years may have also been a factor.

Does your number have any significant meaning: 3...2...1... BOOM.

You joined derby because: I fell in love with it the moment I walked into my first TCRG bout. I didn't know what was going on, but I knew I had to do it.

How long have you been playing derby: 3 years.

Favourite thing about derby: The confidence it has given me. there's something to be said for the physicality as well, and being someone who works in customer service all day, it sure is great to be allowed to hit people at night.

Advice for new derby players: Don't give up. And if you never fall down, you aren't pushing yourself and trying new things.

New moves
: I can skate between Amazombie's legs. Watch for that move this season!

Which derby player(s) do you look up to: I have two: Carmen Getsome of Rat City is incredibly athletic, agile, and versatile. You can't stop her when she's jamming, and you sure as heck can't get by her. She has a head for strategy like no one I've ever seen.
Georgia W. Tush of Montreal Roller Derby is strong beyond her stature, and the way she's brought up her league is amazing. You can see the camraderie in everything from their warm-ups to their walls.

Tell us something non-derby related: I'm unashamedly a giant nerd. Computers are my lifeblood. If you take away my computer, I will literally shrivel to the floor and remain there, a boneless, twitching mass, until you put a mouse back in my hand and the feel of harnessed virtual power beneath my fingertips.
